When it comes to non-profit insurance, this means that your Hummel risk advisor is going to provide you with a custom-tailored plan that's best for your ministry, not our company. We're in the business of trust-building, not selling policies.

Crime

From online giving, to posting devotions on social media, internet safety is becoming an important consideration for churches everywhere. For some non-profits, additional cyber security coverage is the best way to complete their online defense.

At Hummel Group we offer coverage options protecting against a variety of issues, from data breaches to embezzlement.

  • Cyber Liability
  • Employee Dishonesty/Fidelity Bond
  • Forgery and Alterations
  • Computer Fraud Coverage
  • Money and Securities

Workers' Compensation

Workers Compensation coverage protects employees and volunteers while serving the ministry for work related injuries.  Workers compensation insurance is legally required in most states for any and all entities that hire employees.  We have multiple options to provide solutions for your unique needs.

Auto Coverage & Van Safety

Auto insurance for churches includes church-owned vehicles, hired auto services, and liability coverage for both staff and volunteer drivers.

We insure:

  • 12 and 15 Passenger Vans
  • Church, School and Tour Buses
  • Private Passenger Vehicles
  • Commercial Trucks
  • Light Service Trucks
  • Covered and Utility Trailers

Van Safety

For drivers who don't have a passenger endorsed CDL, we offer van-safety training videos and assessments so that all volunteers can participate in transportation ministries.

Risk Management

SafeChurch

SafeChurch.com is a comprehensive risk management tool designed to help you prevent claims and lower the cost of your insurance.

SafeChurch offers online assessments and videos on subjects ranging from children's ministry to property maintenance.

By completing this online risk management program, your church receives up to a 15% discount on your annual GuideOne premium.

Church Security

A growing concern for many churches is how to best approach security; specifically the pros and cons of CCW.

For every church we begin this discussion by having a clear understanding of your state specific laws, followed by close work with local law enforcement.

Various liability factors are involved whether you allow CCW by approved members, off duty officers or a hired security service. Organizations that decide against concealed weapons as a means of security should also be versed in security best practices.

Every church should have a plan in place in the event of an active shooter or violent occurrence. We can help your organization make informed decisions and structure your safety policies accordingly.

*Please consult with an attorney before final implementation.

Group Affiliated Program (GAP)

GuideOne offers Group Affiliated Programs or Endorsed Programs designed to provide specialized, comprehensive insurance coverage for headquarters of religious organizations and their member institutions.

*This program varies according to state specific laws.

Benefits

Participants in the program receive:

  • A property coverage enhancement for each participating policy holder; providing an additional 25% of their total building and contents policy amounts, (up to $1,000,000) to use in case of an insured property loss
  • Headquarters are notified of any member coverage lapses. This gives the opportunity to intervene if necessary, and keep the insurance in place.
  • Each participating institution can determine it's own coverage and limits, with minimum requirements being established by the headquarters.
  • Each participating institution can receive its own policy
  • Each participating institution can be billed separately

This is a general description of the program. There are many ways to personalize your affiliation benefits; from custom billing to overall program design.

FAQs

If one of our employees uses their personal vehicle for something work related, and is involved in an accident, does our policy cover them? Does our policy cover us?

Your employee’s personal auto insurance policy should cover them personally.  As a church or nonprofit, you need to make sure you have what’s called Hired/Non-Owned liability coverage endorsed to your policy.  This covers your entity if you are also named in a lawsuit per it being your employee driving somewhere having to do with their employment with you.

What is a hold harmless agreement and when should we use one?

A hold harmless is an agreement between two parties that obligates one party to protect another against certain risks of legal liability.  For example, you may have an outside group that requests to rent a room in your building every Wednesday evening for a Yoga class.  As the building owner, you might ask them to sign a hold harmless agreement so that if someone injures themselves during that class, you have a layer of protection from being sued.  You would also want to consider requiring the Yoga instructor to carry their own insurance and list you as an additional insured on that policy.

If there is a sexual misconduct allegation within our organization, does our policy cover legal defense for that accusation and/or a possible settlement to that person awarded by a court?

General liability policies typically do not include this type of coverage.  Therefore, it is important to discuss adding a sexual misconduct specific endorsement on to your policy.

Does our current general liability policy provide liability coverage for us if we serve wine at our annual fundraiser dinner?

Most commercial general liability policies include coverage for what’s referred to as “host liquor” liability.  This would apply to policyholders that are not considered to be in the business of selling or serving alcohol.  It would also be advisable to check with the city where the event is being held, along with the landlord who owns the building, in case they require you to have specific liquor liability coverage.

Service Area

The Hummel Group team has church/non-profit clients throughout the US. We have physical offices in Ohio & Indiana but are just as effective at helping clients who are not near one of our office locations.  All of our paperwork and onboarding is done virtually, so being close to an office is not necessary.
